Celebrating Swiss-Welsh ties during Wales Week

The Embassy marked Wales Week and St David’s Day with our annual reception, joined by Shadow Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens and representatives from Llandudno and Champéry – towns twinned since 2022.

Mingling over hearty servings of raclette, guests discovered how the twinning of Llandudno and Champéry had opened up opportunities right across the (cheese)board.

The Welsh Skiing Championships recently took place in Champéry, while young elite Swiss skiers will head over to Llandudno later this year for summer practice on the Welsh seaside town’s artificial ski slope.

In the same week as the Embassy reception, Ambassador Markus Leitner travelled to Cardiff and addressed the Cardiff Business Club. The Ambassador highlighted the strong and growing ties between Switzerland and Wales – including Swiss rail-builder Stadler delivering over 70 new trains for Wales & Borders.

You can read all about the Embassy Reception and the flourishing ties between Llandudno and Champéry in the North Wales Pioneer.
