Between the signing of the Berne Financial Services Agreement and attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt found time for another Swiss stopover – joining Ambassador Markus Leitner and 18 Swiss business leaders for lunch at the Embassy in early January.

Collectively, Swiss companies and investment directly support over 90,000 jobs across the UK. In the engaging discussion, the Chancellor and Swiss business leaders exchanged views on the opportunities of the new financial services agreement and the ongoing Enhanced UK-Switzerland Free Trade Agreement negotiations.

In December, following more than two years of negotiations, Chancellor Hunt and Swiss Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter signed the first-of-its-kind agreement on mutual recognition in financial services. The Berne Financial Services Agreement will boost competitiveness and deepen the already close cooperation between our two major international financial centres.
