On 15 May 2025, the Swiss Residence in London was transformed into a vibrant resonance chamber for four grand pianos. In collaboration with Klosters Music, the Embassy of Switzerland brought the unique spirit of Klosters to the heart of London.

As the Swiss Ambassador to the UK, Markus Leitner, noted during the event, “For decades, the British have brought so much to Klosters: ski clubs, chalet culture, tobogganing, glamorous charity events, and even royal visitors." He added: "It’s about time that Klosters brought something back to Britain." And what better way to do so than through music?

At the centre of the evening was a concert by the Gershwin Piano Quartet, a Swiss-based ensemble that redefines the piano as an instrument of limitless possibility. Performing on four grand pianos, the quartet presented a multifaceted programme that ranged from Johann Strauss's Kaiserwalzer and a reimagined Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov to Gershwin’s Concerto in F and a brilliant set of arrangements from Bernstein’s West Side Story.

Following the performance, guests were welcomed for a reception amidst the striking sculptures of Christian Bolt, a renowned Klosters-based artist.

Klosters Music has become a cultural highlight of the Swiss summer season, thriving thanks to strong British support – both musical and financial. Today, the tradition is evolving as Klosters asserts itself as a cultural destination, led by the ambitious Klosters Music Festival, founded in 2019. Set against a backdrop of Alpine beauty, the festival brings internationally renowned musicians to the mountains, creating an atmosphere of artistic excellence and intimacy.

The upcoming Klosters Music Summer Concerts, taking place from 26 July to 3 August 2025, will explore the theme ‘Myths and Legends’. The event hosted at the Swiss Residence offered an exciting preview of what lies ahead.
