With record sales of 600,000 tickets, Switzerland is creating beautiful football moments with the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025. The competition is also a pledge to women’s football.
The UEFA Women's EURO 2025, the 14th edition of the tournament, is being held across eight Swiss cities from 2-27 July – Basel, Bern, Geneva, Zurich, St. Gallen, Lucerne, Thun and Sion.
Both England and Wales qualified for the competition. In advance of the tournament, the Embassy hosted a range of activities – including an event with Johan Djourou, Sporting Coordinator for the Swiss women’s national team and former Arsenal player, plus a “Swiss Watch Party” to mark Switzerland’s opening game of the tournament against Norway. Activities also extended beyond the Embassy, with Ambassador Markus Leitner hiking up Wales’ highest mountain to join their squad announcement for the competition.
In line with UEFA's recently introduced guidelines, the Swiss strategy for the competition embraces Circular Economy models (reduce, reuse, recover) to minimise waste wherever possible.
Earlier this year, Ambassador Markus Leitner joined Swiss and Aston Villa star Noelle Maritz to talk home tournaments and what awaits England and Wales fans this summer (plus a few kick-ups).
Legacy
Since the UEFA Women's EURO 2025 was awarded to Switzerland, the Swiss Football Association (SFV/ASF) has been working on an extensive legacy programme that will run until the end of 2027.
The legacy programme, led by the SFV/ASF, aims to drive positive change by engaging the whole of Switzerland in conversations and actions centred around women's football, representation and equal opportunity. The vision of the tournament is to stimulate long-term, sustainable change at both grassroots and elite levels.
This programme consists of more than 20 projects to promote and develop women's football – for female players, coaches, referees and office workers. The tournament represents a great opportunity to lay a new foundation for women's football and for girls and women in football. The objective is to change structures, break down barriers and obstacles and create new projects and measures that will endure and sustainably advance women's football and women in football.
